Jay Ernest – Official Bio
Jay Ernest is a powerhouse country singer, songwriter, and performer hailing from Minnesota, known for his deep baritone voice, vintage flair, and a lifelong dedication to preserving and pushing the boundaries of American roots music. Best known as the frontman for the internationally touring Johnny Cash tribute band Church of Cash, Jay has played thousands of shows across the United States and Europe, earning praise for his authentic sound and commanding stage presence.
In addition to his tribute work, Jay co-created and stars in The Folsom Prison Experience—a theatrical, immersive concert event recreating the historic 1968 Johnny Cash performance behind bars. The show has garnered acclaim for its creative storytelling and powerful musical performances.
Jay's solo work adds yet another chapter to his story. His debut country album, Hold Your Horses (2024), was co-written with Grammy-nominated songwriter David Ray Stevens (Jelly Roll) and climbed the iTunes country charts with its authentic, storytelling-driven songs.
In May 2024, Jay teamed up with the renowned Italian roots band The Don Diego Trio to record Go Tell 'Em, a vintage-style dance album tracked live in Milan, Italy, using only four microphones and 1950s-era recording techniques. The project, released by El Toro Records (Spain), is a lively fusion of Ernest’s American croon with Don Diego’s retro twang. The album includes a co-written track with legendary guitarist Bill Kirchen of Commander Cody fame.
Whether on stage in front of thousands or recording with international artists, Jay Ernest continues to blend the spirit of classic country with his own voice—always honoring the past while carving his path forward.
